Supporting children in need since 2004

The organisation “Hope and Light Community Welfare” was founded in 2004 with the aim of supporting children in need in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village (South Africa) by providing them with educational training opportunities through sponsorships for kindergartens and schools. Through our sponsorships, we not only ensure them a better future but also a better future for their families, communities, and country.

In January 2005, Hope and Light e. V. Germany was entered into the register of associations. The aim of the association is to provide financial support for projects in South Africa. The association is recognized as a non-profit organisation and is therefore entitled to issue donation receipts for Germany. Rainer Winge and his team took over the chairmanship of the association in 2016.

Dianne and Paul Cruickshank founded Hope and Light UK in 2009 to seek sponsors and to raise funds in the UK in support of our village and kindergarten. Hope and Light UK can issue donation receipts also for England.

In September 2019, the non-profit association “Hope and Light Community Welfare Switzerland” was founded to provide financial support for diverse projects in South Africa. The Swiss association is entitled to issue donation receipts as well. The association is headed by the board members Bettina Dervey and Margrith Bill, who live close to the school in South Africa.

Our Objectives

In the middle of a poverty and violence cycle, Hope and Light wants to be a sign of hope in the townships around Sommerset West! As everywhere in the country, unemployment, violence, abuse and HIV/AIDS are putting the residents, especially the children, through terrible hardships.

Hope and Light’s help starts with the children. Who else can bring about a change for the better and lead the country out of desolation and lethargy? It’s the young, well-educated, confident and mature people who have to take on this task!

Hope and Light’s primary goal is to create the proper conditions for the appropriate schooling and vocational training for children and adolescents by paving the way for a more attractive future for them.
